The Deputy Senate President of the Students Union Government of the University of Calabar, Miss Verval Egbe, has disclosed her reason for delving into campus politics.


Speaking at an event put together by her office tagged "Let's Discuss", the Deputy Senate President said she was seeking a platform she could leverage on to encourage students to engage in intellectual discuss as well as horn their skills academically.


Therefore, out of her passion, she decided to create a quiz competition for Medical students. Miss Verval revealed that she wished the event becomes an annual event in the school and goes national, hoping it one day embraces other faculties.

The event which is the First ever Student's Union Government quiz competition for Medical students kicked off Monday,15th April with 6 teams participating in the preliminary stage.


The event has 6 lecturers and consultants of both the University of Calabar Medical School and Teaching Hospital adopting 6 different teams each as sponsors to the competition.

The likes of Professor Roland Ndoma-Egba, Prof. Victor Nsa, Prof. Emmanuel Ekanem, Prof. Imabong Ekanem, Dr. Joseph Udosen, and Prof. Eyo Ubangha Eyong all had teams under their sponsorship.



At the end of the preliminary of the competition, four teams comprising Prof. Victor Ansa, Prof. Ndoma Egba, Prof. Emmanuel Ekanem and Dr. Joseph Udosen teams all made it to the finals,  with Prof. Victor Ansa's team topping the competition with  66.5%, while Prof. Eyong Ubangha and Prof. Ima-Obong Ekanem teams were evicted but will be rewarded for their participation on the grand finale.



The event which will climax Wednesday 17th April will see the remaining four teams competing for the star prize of N50,000 while the runner up goes home with N30,000.

Speaking with TDN, some medical students expressed satisfaction with the process the events went as they said there was no room for manipulation.

One of the students, Miss Rita who spoke with our correspondent said she has learnt a lot from the competition and will make herself available to be part of the event next year.


Present at event were Dr. Ayodele, Dr. Lawson Egbe, Dr. David Ushie, Dr. John Gbaji, Dr. Orokawan, Dr. Donald amongst others.
