Barely one week after the National Assembly member representing Akampka/Biase Federal Constituency in the green chambers, Hon. Daniel Asuquo aka Dansuki expressed his intent to run for the Governorship position of the state come 2023, a lot of tension is said to be in government house with politicians from Dansuki's Akpamkpa local government area at the forefront.


According to a report from Primetime Reporters, one Ntufam Okon Nyong Owuna who doubles as the Director General of the State Rural Development Agency and chairman, Akampka Security council has alleged his life is being threatened by Hon. Daniel Asuquo via attempted assassination.



Reports has it that Ntufam, Okon who is the Director General of Governor Ben Ayade Campaign Organization in Akamkpa and the Revenue Agent of Cross River State in all the quarries for haulage has petitioned his long standing friend and age mate, Daniel Asuquo to the Police Commissioner in the state through the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).


To that effect Hon. Asuquo has been invited by the Police Commissioner in the state through the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to present himself on the 28th day of March, 2019 for questioning.



 Media aide of the Federal House member, who confirmed the report said he was surprised at the turn of event and totally disappointed with Ntufam Okon for stooping so low.
 In his words, “I don’t know what Ntufam Owuna’s intentions are but I see a pattern here of politics of relevance. He wants to be in the good books of the Governor. I see this exercise as having political undertone than what he is peddling. You cannot remove politics from it, Ntufam supported Apostle Bassey O. Bassey during the PDP primaries and when Chief Daniel Asuquo emerges as the candidate, he jumped ship to support Hon. Nkpanam Obo of the APC against his brother, and today he is alleging threat to life”, he concluded.

On his part, Ntufam Okon Owuna, who could not point out directly how his life was being threatened said he got wind of the information and didn't want to take chances with vital issues patterning to life and death, so he decided to file in a report to abate any ugly incident, if any.

Ntufam Owuna further added the two of his witnesses had already testified at the police CID division in the state head quarters in Calabar on the 22nd March, 2019.


However, associates and friends of the duo of Daniel Asuquo and Okon Owuna have dismissed the claim by Ntufam Owuna stating that issue is simply a fight of relevance and supremacy.  Both are friends and aga mate from the same community and have both gained political powers. Currently they seem not to be sharing the same political interest and as such one should expect this level of political tussle and even more.


In a related information, it should be recalled that the Governor was said to have projected another candidate to replace Dansuki during the party's primary election, but finally Dansuki emerged the party's candidate, the fight didn't end there, it was alleged that the Governor went ahead to back an APC candidate against Dansuki during the Presidential and National Assembly elections, again Dansuki emerged victoriously.


Report has it that maybe as a pay back, Dansuki also projected a Candidate from the SDP for the state house of Assembly seat against the governor's choice, although the Governor's candidate also emerged victorious.


It is believed that the declaration of intent to run the guber race in 2023 by Dansuki may have been perceived by the Governor who is the party leader in the state as an affront and maybe a threat to the governor's choice of who takes over from him in 2023.

The Governor may have decided to use Dansuki's kinsmen to fight him.
